Hike to the Potato Chip Rock

We would like to share with you this great location to go hiking in San Diego, which we have been to a few times.

Lately, we have been attracted to hiking and looking for new places to go to, and we really loved Mt. Woodson, it is in Poway and it is pretty famous because of this really thin "potato chip rock" where you can take great photos (it's the main attraction).

However, the trails to get to it are pretty tough - it's about 3 miles uphill - but the scenery is beautiful and well worth it. It took us a little over one hour each way (we took our time) and I have to add it is a lot easier downhill of course.

The trails we took begin at Lake Poway, which is beautiful and you can go fishing or even rent a boat and it has a great park.

We are not expert hikers or anything, but we would like to share some important tips on how we prepare for a hike:
  • Take comfortable clothes and shoes, as if you are going to the gym, because it is quite the work out!

  • Wear sunblock lotion and take the bottle with you, you may need it since you will be sweating and you may be hiking for a few hours.

  • Sunglasses and/or hat because it gets pretty sunny, especially here in San Diego!

  • Take plenty of water, COOL water because it can get warmed up.

  • Take some snacks, we took a backpack with 4 water bottles, granola bars and trail mix.

  • NEVER GO ALONE! In case something happens to you, the person who is with you can help you or call for help.

  • Take a cell phone, and make sure you tell someone where you are going and what time you expect to return (in case something ever happens or you get lost they will know where to start looking).

If you would like to add anything else that is important please do, meanwhile, enjoy the pictures we took! :)

  • NUNCA VAYAS SOLO/A!!
