La Vida is Belle

So, I live in San Diego, CA, and this past weekend I went to Tijuana, Baja California (“TJ” as we all call it around here) to get a wisdom tooth extracted.

It’s very common for people to go south of the border (Mexico) to get dental care because it is less expensive and faster, but that’s a whole different issue!

Any way, along with the trip to TJ, comes the inevitable BORDER WAIT to go back to the U.S., unless you are a privileged member of the SENTRI program, which comes at a cost.

Well, for those of you who have not experienced the border wait in San Ysidro/Tijuana - the BIGGEST border crossing in the world, which by the way is going through some remodeling – lately, the wait time is ridiculous!

This was a Saturday afternoon – worst time to cross the border because a lot of people go shopping, visit family or go to work – and there were approximately 200 cars in line and about 500 people in the pedestrian lane, where I was!

The border crossing in itself is like a little city full of vendors, food, music, stores and people asking for money while you are in line. I took some photographs and video to hopefully capture the experience.

Yo vivo en San Diego, CA, y este fin de semana fui a Tijuana, Baja California, al dentista para que me sacaran una muela del juicio.

Es muy común que gente vaya al sur de la frontera (a México) al dentista porque no hay tanta burocracia y es más rapido obtener una cita, pero eso ya es otro tema!

Bueno, todos saben que cuando van a Tijuana, el viajecito para regresarte al "otro lado" (Estados Unidos) también viene con la larga espera en "la línea” a menos que seas miembro del programa privilegiado SENTRI, que viene con un costo.

Para aquellos que no han pasado por la linéa de San Ysidro/Tijuana – el cruce fronterizo MÁS GRANDE en todo el mundo, que de hecho esta bajo remodelación – hay que tener mucha paciencia porque recientemente la línea ha estado mucho más lenta.

Era sábado a mediodía – el peor momento para cruzar la línea porque todo mundo cruza para ir de compras, visitar a la familia o a trabajar – y había aproximadamente 200 carros en fila y unas 500 personas en la línea peatonal, donde yo estaba!

El cruce fronterizo en si es como una mini-ciudad porque esta lleno de vendedores, comida, música, tiendas y gente pidiendo limosna mientras esperas. Tomé algunas fotografías y video para tratar de capturar la experiencia.
